Pianist and composer Orrin Evans has spent over 25 years establishing himself as a fiercely independent force in modern jazz, amassing a discography of more than 25 albums as a leader. His career is marked by significant critical acclaim, including topping the "Rising Star Pianist" category in the 2018 DownBeat Critics Poll and earning three Grammy nominations for his work with the Captain Black Big Band—most recently for the 2024 release Walk a Mile in My Shoe. Beyond his own ensembles, Evans gained international visibility during a high-profile three-year tenure with the celebrated trio The Bad Plus and has collaborated with a "who's who" of jazz icons, including Christian McBride, Bobby Watson, and Wallace Roney.
