This performance honors one of America’s most consequential jazz dynasties, born of the Indianapolis and Indiana Avenue jazz scene. This night, the lasting impact of names like Slide, Aletra & Virtue, “Duke”, Carmelita, Dawn, Marcus, “Lucky,” and Maceo Hampton will be celebrated.
The featured performers for this show include trumpet virtuoso Pharez Whitted (son of Virtue), a newly minted 2026 Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Famer; saxophonist Darius Hampton (great-nephew of Slide), a distinguished professor at Northwestern University; and vocalist Tamar Gray (daughter of Virtue), an amazing vocalist now residing in Cleveland, OH, who also carries the Hampton tradition forward through her performances and as an educator
