Join the Kent Hickey Nonet as they celebrate Miles Davis' Centennial performing the music from his landmark album "Birth of the Cool." The group is comprised of some of central Indiana's finest musician including Rich Dole on trombone, Matt Pivec on alto sax, Evan Drybread on bari sax, Peggy Moran on horn, Olander Porter on tuba, Christopher Pitts on piano, Jesse Wittman on bass, and Cassius Goens III on drums. The band will perform their take on this classic album with many songs that defined the "cool" style like Boplicity, Jeru, and more. Join us for an evening celebrating this landmark album paired with wonderful food and drinks!


Kent Hickey is an in-demand trumpet player and educator based in Indianapolis, IN. He is currently on faculty at both Butler University and the University of Indianapolis as Adjunct Professor of Jazz Trumpet where he teaches applied lessons and jazz combo. In addition to his university teaching responsibilities, Kent also serves as the Outreach Liaison for the Butler Youth Jazz Program, a component of the Butler Community Arts School. Professionally, Kent freelances in and around Indianapolis and leads two groups of his own, the Hickey-Shanafelt 9ollective and the Kent Hickey Organ 4tet. His groups have performed at renowned local and regional venues like the Chatterbox, Merriman's Playhouse, Blockhouse Bar, Fulton Street Collective (Chicago), Blu Jazz+ (Akron), and the world-famous Jazz Kitchen. Kent also performs regularly with several Indianapolis-based groups including the Sean Imboden Large Ensemble, Duke Tumatoe's horns, and Nick Zyromski's AbdoMen to name a few.
