Grammy-nominated, Indiana-based trumpeter John Raymond is one of the most defining jazz trumpet voices of his generation. With a singular voice as a genre-bending player and composer, Raymond is "steering jazz in the right direction" (DownBeat Magazine) by pushing its boundaries, seamlessly incorporating indie-rock, folk and electronic influences into his music. As Something Else reviews stated, "This is jazz, yes, but jazz with an open mind'.

Raymond has released nine critically acclaimed albums as a leader, earning praise from The New York Times, DownBeat, NPR, Stereogum, and others. Four of these recordings have been with his trio, Real Feels, which includes modern jazz visionaries Gilad Hekselman and Colin Stranahan. His most recent recording, Shadowlands — a collaboration with S. Carey (of Bon Iver) — blends elements of indie folk, progressive jazz, lush pop, and atmospheric electronic music. He has been a sideman or featured artist on over thirty other recordings, including four GRAMMY-nominated albums, and has performed or recorded with a diverse array of artists across genres including legendary jazz drummer Billy Hart, pop sensation Sara Bareilles, Stellar-award winning gospel producer Darnell Davis, and singer/songwriter Sandra McCracken, among others.

Additionally, Raymond has emerged as a leading voice in modern jazz pedagogy. He is Associate Professor of Jazz Studies at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and through his online education platform The Jazz Trumpet Routine and his widely known method books, he has helped cultivate a global community of players and improvisers focused on creative freedom, holistic technique, and discovering their own voice. He maintains an active schedule as a guest soloist and artist at schools around the world.

Tonight's performance will feature a quintet of renowned musicians performing Raymond's new original compositions that combine classic jazz sounds with modern influences.
